The oceans during the late 1860-92s are no longer safe; many ships have been lost. Sailors have returned to port with stories of a vicious narwhal (a giant whale with a long horn) which sinks their ships. A naturalist, Professor (Pierre) Aronnax, his assistant, Conseil, and a professional whaler, Ned Land, join an US expedition which attempts to unravel the mystery.

The Waterfront Crime Commission is about to hold public hearings on union crime and underworld infiltration. As workers are turned against each other, Terry Malloy inadvertently participates in the murder of fellow longshoreman Joey Doyle. Union boss Johnny Friendly orchestrates the murder along with other illegal dockside activities, aided by Terry’s brother Charley. Terry begins to feel pangs of conscience. When Joey’s sister Edie sees more in Terry than he sees in himself and Father Barry urges him on, Terry reassesses his past and begins to regain responsibility for his actions.

After leaving the Army after W.W.II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Linus and Davis Larrabee are the two sons of a very wealthy family. Linus is all work — busily running the family corporate empire, he has no time for a wife and family. Inside 1950-impressive New York, an adventuresome free-hack photographer finds himself restricted to a wheelchair within his infinitesimal apartment as a busted leg mends. With only the occasional interruption of a visiting nurture and his frustrated love interest, a beautiful mode consultant, his attention is naturally fraught to the courtyard exterior his “stern window” and the occupants of the apartment buildings which enfold it. Soon he is consumed by the secret dramas of his neighbor’s lives which play themselves out by his eyes. There is “Miss Lonely hearts,” accordingly desperate for her invented lover to she sits him a plate at the banquet table and feigns their ensuing chat. There is the frustrated musician banging on his keyboard, the sunbathing sculptress, the shapely artiste, the newlyweds who are concealed starting their neighbors by a window shadow, and a bungling focus -matured couple with a small yapping beleaguers who snooze on the fire escape to avoid the sizzling heat of their apartment. …with then here is the mysterious salesman whose troublesome, invalid wife’s abrupt absence since the prospect ominously coincides with middle-of-the-nighttime forays into the murky , sleeping metropolis with his sample holder . Where did she go? What’s within the stem that the salesman ships away? What’s he been liability with the knives and the motto that he cleans on the kitchen sink?
